What is a pterygium?
A pterygium is a triangular growth of conjunctival tissue that extends onto the cornea and is often associated with long-term exposure to sunlight, wind, dust and dry environments.
Symptoms
It may cause redness, irritation, dryness or cosmetic concern and can induce astigmatism if it grows significantly onto the cornea.
Treatment
Mild symptoms may be managed with lubricating or prescribed drops. Surgery may be recommended when the growth progresses, affects vision or causes persistent symptoms.
