Why are regular eye examinations important?
Some eye diseases can develop without noticeable symptoms in their early stages. Regular examinations can detect changes in vision, eye pressure, the retina or optic nerve before they become advanced.
How often should you be examined?
The appropriate interval depends on age, family history, diabetes and other medical conditions, medications, previous eye disease and current symptoms.
When should you not wait?
- Sudden reduction in vision.
- New flashes or a sudden increase in floaters.
- Severe eye pain or marked redness.
- Eye trauma or chemical exposure.
A direct ophthalmic examination is the most reliable way to determine the cause of new symptoms.
