What is optic neuritis?
Optic neuritis is inflammation of the optic nerve, which carries visual information from the eye to the brain.
Symptoms
Symptoms can include reduced vision, altered color perception, visual-field changes and pain around the eye, sometimes worse with eye movement.
Assessment
Evaluation may include visual acuity, color vision, pupil responses, optic-nerve examination, OCT and other tests. Sudden visual loss should be assessed promptly because several retinal, vascular and neurological conditions can cause similar symptoms.
