What is conjunctivitis?
Conjunctivitis is inflammation of the transparent tissue covering the white part of the eye and the inside of the eyelids.
Common causes
It may be viral, bacterial, allergic or irritative. Symptoms can include redness, watering, itching, burning and discharge.
When should it be examined?
Significant pain, light sensitivity, reduced vision, contact-lens use or persistent symptoms require an eye examination because more serious conditions can also present as a red eye.
