What is amblyopia?
Amblyopia, often called lazy eye, is reduced vision that develops when the brain does not receive or use a clear image from one eye during childhood.
Common causes
Causes include strabismus, unequal prescriptions between the eyes, high refractive error or obstruction of vision during early childhood.
Treatment
Treatment may include glasses, patching or other methods that encourage use of the weaker eye, together with treatment of any underlying strabismus or eye condition. Early treatment provides the best opportunity for visual improvement.
