Hyperopia and Presbyopia

Hyperopia and presbyopia

Hyperopia is a refractive condition in which the eye may need additional focusing effort, especially for near tasks. Presbyopia is the age-related loss of near focusing ability that usually becomes noticeable in the forties.

Common symptoms

Symptoms can include difficulty reading small print, eyestrain, blurred near vision and the need to hold reading material farther away.

Correction

Options include reading glasses, bifocal or progressive lenses, contact lenses and selected surgical or lens-based procedures depending on age, prescription and eye health.
